Gratitude: A Quality of the Strong

Gratitude…. A simple, yet a word with a complex meaning. There are many definitions for the word gratitude. According to the Oxford dictionary gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. In shorter words gratitude is the act of being thankful. In today’s society, I find that many people forget how to be thankful for things. Gratitude or being thankful is actually one of the key ingredients for a happy life.

Gratitude helps us see what is there, instead of what isn’t…

Why should we be thankful?

Have you ever sat down in your chair and looked at the neighbors house or car and thought why you don’t have it, or when you will have it? Have you ever looked at another person and wondered OMG! He/She is so amazing! I wish I could be just like him/her. I could go on and on with examples, but that is not why I am writing this blog. The point I am trying to make is that these kind of thoughts block you from revealing and discovering your own potential and path to happiness. These thoughts are what makes a person sad, because he focuses on the things he does not have, instead on the things he actually possesses. These are the thoughts that actually blinds a healthy mind and pushes one away into an abyss of sorrow.

Gratitude or being thankful is important because it makes you, not only appreciate your life more, which ultimately makes you happier, but it also helps you improve your relationships with other people and the way they picture you. Gratitude also helps to make your mind healthy again and helps to dispose of mental illnesses such as envy, hatred, anger and so on, things that can cause serious issues in your life on the long run. They are toxic to your mental, physical and spiritual life and form a barrier on your path to finding happiness. I would say get rid of this immediately!

How can I be thankful?

There are many ways by which you can be thankful and have gratitude for things. Below you will find some methods or ways or train of thoughts, whatever you would like to call it, that I think are very important to know. They are very easy to try and follow, which makes it easier for beginners. Actually ancient scriptures reveal that qualities like gratitude, forgiveness, love and so on lie dormant in our hearts. They are fast asleep deep within us and need to be awakened. They are natural qualities that each and every person possesses so please give it a shot! Now for the methods!

Be thankful for your life!

the first thing you should certainly do… is that you should be grateful for who you are! Do not measure yourself to others, because we are all unique in our own ways. You cannot compare water with fire. they both have their own unique qualities and serve different purposes, which all needed and essential in life. There is only one original master copy of you walking around on this planet earth. Be thankful for your life, no matter who you are and where you are. I know that life can be hard sometimes, but remember that everyone walking on this earth, may he be rich or poor, beautiful or less beautiful, fat or muscular all suffer adversity in their own way. Be happy who you are and make the best out of it! do not try to be better that others it is not a competition! The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday!

Be kind, Be thoughtful, Be genuine, But most of all be Thankful!

The situations and circumstances!

To be thankful about your situations and circumstances is as essential as being thankful for being you! this will compliment and help you accept being you. The situation you are in right now is not your destination! always remember that! In life you are on a continuous journey. You can either be thankful for your temporary situation or you can be ungrateful. The  choice is yours. there is an amazing analogy that states that in each person lives two dogs. One dog is the good dog. He is considered to be all the good qualities which makes one happy such as gratitude. The other is the bad dog, whom embodies all the negative qualities that ultimately leads only to problems such as envy and ungratefulness. The dog you feed is the one that will win! They are constantly fighting. So the choices you make will ultimately lead either to your happiness or to your doom. Be thankful about your situation and circumstances and always remain positive! The best is yet to come!

Give thanks with a grateful heart!

The people around you! 

This is yet a major pillar in this method. Be grateful for the people around you. No one comes into your life without a reason! They always come and go and leave a lesson behind for you! Then you have those who are there for a longer while and would do anything and everything for you! Acknowledge their presence! Be grateful! Have gratitude! They will not be around forever and you never know when they will leave! Some people show you how to be and to become! Others simply show you how not to be and how not to become! Be grateful towards all of them! If you are grateful to the people around you, you will see how big door open for you where ever life brings you. Just think! would it not be amazing if everyone would be grateful towards you? Start a chain! Be the pioneer in your circle or group. People will respect and enjoy your presence more. Everything you do in life has a ripple effect! So create good and positive ripples and they will return to you!

Be thankful for what you have and you will end up having more. if you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never even have enough 🙂

So you see being grateful has a lot of plus points and the best part about it is that it’s completely free! I must say that although it is very simple, it can be very hard as well for some people. To excel in anything in life takes time and practice, but if you really want it! If you really want to change! and if you really want to be happy! you will make this investment! Always remember… Gratitude is a quality of the Strong! are you strong?
